Pour the bleach solution into the knife slot. Mix one tablespoon of bleach with one gallon of water. Pure bleach is too strong for this purpose, and this mixture will effectively disinfect the block. Wipe the solution outside the container and pour the mixture into the tank until it is full.

Instead of bleach, undiluted vinegar or hydrogen peroxide can be used.

Let the mixture sit down. The block needs to sit on the solution for about a minute and this will help disinfect the block. You can stay longer, but try not to let it dry on the block.

Rinse and dry. Thoroughly flush the block. Make sure your water goes into the slot, and everything outside flushes out the bleach. Once completed, place it upside down on a clean towel and let it air dry. Wait until the slot is dry before putting it back
