IS IT SAFE TO REVITALIZE A WOODEN SERVING BOWL WITH MINERAL OIL? ALSO, WHERE CAN I BUY MINERAL OIL?
Yes, this is safe. I have some wooden bowls. Our family was acquired in the late 1950s when we lived in Hawaii and their status is still good. To restore the patina of your work, first wash the bowl with warm dish soap and warm water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Then gently apply the surface with mineral oil (sold in pharmacies, supermarkets and hardware stores). Allow the oil to stay on the bowl overnight, then use a paper towel to wipe off the excess oil. You should do this several times a year, depending on how much you use. Do not put wooden bowls or utensils in the dishwasher or soak it in water.
