Knowing how to take care of wooden spoons will keep these wonderful kitchen tools looking good and make sure they can be used safely.

Although they are useful, wooden spoons should not be drawn into the dishwasher along with other cooking utensils. I learned that I ruined the difficult path after a lovely set. Soon after, they began to become dull and dry, and then they cracked.

After several mine changes, I decided to learn how to care for the wooden spoon rather than buying new wooden spoons.

Why spoon crack

The causes of fragmentation and cracking of wooden spoons are related to their manufacturing methods. Wooden spoons are cut from pieces of wood and this process leaves hairy, sometimes sharp edges. Manufacturers will certainly take them down, but each time the spoon gets wet - through use or cleaning - it will happen again at the end. These debris will eventually stop stains and odors.

Since the end also allows moisture to penetrate the inside of the spoon, the spoon itself will eventually begin to split and separate. That's why it's impossible to put them in the dishwasher: The heat helps the water penetrate into the wood.

Why maintain them?

The cracks we just discussed? When you use untreated spoons, they allow the food to penetrate the wood. Over time, food can cause bacteria to grow. You will also notice that your spoon looks dirty and may not smell well. This is not something you want to provide food for your family!
